Wicking Bed Design and Soils Workshop

August 12, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$20.00

What is a Wicking Bed

Wicking beds are an enclosed garden bed with a water storage at the base, like a self watering pot.  They provide consistent and even moisture to the soil from below.  Reduce the amount of water needed, and loss of surface moisture through evaporation.  Watering from below also helps reduce diseases caused by overhead watering.  Wicking beds are an ideal system for hot summers, and for times when you are not at home.  Learn other water saving techniques in this workshop.

What you will learn

Join Dave Sadler former science teacher and avid gardener, and Lisa Ginns Horticulturist to:

  1. Learn the design principals of wicking garden beds and make a small one suitable for salad greens or herbs to take home;
  2. Make a seed raising mix and a seedling mix;
  3. Learn how to make compost;
  4. Create a soil medium suitable for wicking beds;
  5. Notes for your future reference.
